Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

What is the difference between a softener and the TAC water conditioner?

There are quite a few differences between softeners and this water conditioner. First, with a water conditioner, no minerals are being removed and replaced like they are in a softener. A softener removes calcium and magnesium from the water and replaces it with sodium. This gives the water a slippery feeling that can linger in the shower or on your hands. To do this exchange, it needs to be regenerated periodically, which creates wasted water. With our TAC media, the minerals are not removed or replaced, they are simply reorganized into harmless microscopic crystals that flow down pipes and out drains, unnoticeable to us on a macro-level. No chemicals or additives, just your natural water. There is no slippery feeling either. Because there is no discharged chemicals into the water, there is no need for regenerating or wasting water periodically, so no need for monthly maintenance or service calls.

Why should I choose the HydroTAC over a water softener?

While water softeners have their place, they are not the only answer. With their size and costly maintenance, most people would rather avoid them. With the HydroTAC’s compact design, virtually no maintenance, and 10 gallons per minute rating this system is perfect for houses, townhomes, and even condos. This water softener alternative takes up minimal space, does not need an outlet for wastewater, and uses NO electricity. We see them often installed with tankless water heaters, freeing up even more floor space.

Will it affect my tankless water heater’s performance?

In front of your tankless water heater, the HydroTAC prevents scaling and reduces the flue gas temperature in gas systems by 30% or more. Electric systems will also show significant energy savings when treated with HydroTAC.

What are the Flex Connectors for and how do they work?

HydroTAC’s Flex Connectors are constructed with John Guest™ original patented design allowing for effortless, push-to-connect, coupling to your pipes; while the other end has a simple bayonet connector, which fastens with ease to our sleek system cartridge… these will make an easy install even easier.

How does the HydroTAC work?

The HydroTAC system has a unique dual filter design all within itself. As water enters the system, it first travels through the 20-micron carbon block filter filtering out impurities, chemicals, and offensive tastes and odors. Then, the water moves vertically through the inner TAC cartridge where scale-causing minerals collect and combine, forming microscopic crystals. These inert crystals remain suspended in the water and move harmlessly through your plumbing, preventing unsightly and harmful scale buildup. This dual filter design extends the life of your pipes and appliances while providing clean water throughout your whole home.

What is TAC?

TAC stands for Template-Assisted Crystallization. The TAC technology keeps scale-causing ions from forming deposits on any metal surfaces or fixtures. TAC technology does not add or remove any elements from your water, allowing essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium to remain without their unwanted effects on your pipes. HydroTAC® is proven to prevent up to 99.6% of scale through multiple independent scientific studies.

How long does maintenance take for the HydroTAC?

You can change both filters in about as much time it takes to change a lightbulb. Watch the video to see it in real-time!

What does the HydroTAC system remove from the water?

With a surface area bigger than a football field, not only does the carbon block remove or reduce sediments, chlorine, foul odors, discoloration and offensive tastes, it can also reduce many more contaminants that are invisible to the naked eye. You can say goodbye to orange stains in your toilet!

What is the antimicrobial filter and what are the benefits?

The antimicrobial filter’s innovative design is derived from NASA technology. It can adsorb virtually any particle size with a unique combination of efficiency, capacity, flow rate and low pressure drop unlike its competitors. It’s dirt holding capacity along with its exceptional reduction capabilities for viruses, heavy metals, and bacteria, will protect your home for up to 75,000 gallons before replacement is necessary. Use this in place of our 20-micron radial flow carbon cartridge for protection against viruses and bacteria!

Will this work for my well?

Our HydroTAC system is most suitable for municipally treated residential water as the municipalities’ adhere to EPA levels for contaminants like copper that may prematurely foul the media. If you are considering our system and aren’t sure what contaminants might be in your water, the best thing you can do is get a water analysis done or check your municipal’s consumer confidence report online, which is where you will find annual reports of contaminants in your area’s water supply.

How would I know when to replace the filters?

Our Coconut Carbon block has a Lifespan of up to 1 year or 50,000 gallons and our TAC® Scale Prevention Cartridge has a Lifespan of 3 years or 250,000 gallons. Luckily for you, we have a subscription option that lets you stay up-to-date with your water without ever worrying about it.

How big is the system?

The whole system is approximately 9 inches wide by 18 inches tall. You only need about that much space, plus enough overhead to change out the filters. With our flex hoses in place, you can flex the system into even smaller spaces and still be able to replace the filters easily.

How soon after I install my system can I drink the water?

Lucky for you, the HydroTAC system gives you fresh clean water from every faucet immediately! For more answers please visit us at GreatWaterNow.com!
